USS Juneau LPD 10

Named for the capital of Alaska, USS JUNEAU’s keel was laid on 23 January 1965 by Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction Company in Seattle, Washington. The “Mighty J” was launched on February 12, 1966, with Mrs. William A. Egan, wife of the governor of Alaska, as a sponsor.

Commissioned on July 12, 1969, the USS JUNEAU went right to work patrolling the high seas.

Mission Statement

To transport and land troops and essential equipment and supplies by means of embarked landing crafts or amphibious vehicles augmented by helicopter lift; to conduct ourselves as representatives of the United States of American and the United States Navy in support of overseas diplomacy.


Reunion Update – Please Respond

Ahoy all USS Juneau LPD-10 shipmates. This includes all who served aboard her from 1969 through 2008. There has been a reunion group that has brought shipmates together every 2 years for several years and we are looking to include all aboard during the timeframe the ship was in service. The current group is mostly made up of those on board in the early years, including several plank owners.

Time is catching up with many of us and we truly want the legacy and camaraderie of this great ship to continue for years to come. We just completed the latest reunion in Branson, Missouri, this July and had the biggest turnout so far.

Our next tentative event is to be held in Mobile, Alabama, in 2026.
